Great God
The Living God in heaven never fails and has never failed.
In the book of I Kings 17, the Isrealites turned away from God and worshipped idols which God warned them against in His commandments. This made God very angry and Elijah the prophet spoke a word unto the land that there shall be no rain which causes a great famine in the land.
Elijah then went into hiding and God fed him and even provided him with water. A time came when the water dried up, God still sent to him help from a Widow shared her last meal with Elijah, that caused her to have an abundance of food. Her hospitality to Elijah also caused her son to be healed and be brought back to life.
In I kings 18 Elijah decided to prove to the King and the Israelites that he served a great God in a contest of Fire.
He told them in I Kings 18:24
"And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord and the God that answereth, let him be God. "
And they all agreed to this
Now they had 450 prophets of their idol Baal, they prepared a bullock for it and called on their God to consume it with fire but no response....
They continued for hours such that Elijah began to mock them telling them maybe their God was sleeping. The people even went as far as cutting themselves to get an answer but nothing happened. This continued till evening.
Elijah's turn had come, he prepared an altar for God according to the 12 tribes of Israel and set the bullock on it. Then he did something that was crazy, he asked for 3 gallons of water to be poured into the trench where the bullock was set.
He then called on the Lord and in I Kings 18:38,
"Then the fire of the Lord fell and consume the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench."
This immediately made the people marvel and bowed down to proclaim that indeed the Lord is God.
This story just shows how great God is. Hallelujah!!!!!
